  • My little dream

So after watching the Olympics, I was super inspired by all the swimmers there this year.  Yes, I know, everyone’s in love with Michael Phelps.

But I’m not a teenie bopper who’s inspired cuz Michael Phelps is so hot and great at swimming.  But I was inspired by him because he made a name for the swimming sport.  The sport in US is not as hot as basketball, football or baseball.  People don’t pay much attention to it, but this is the sport that I grew up with.  I used to get up at 6am and swim for an hour before breakfast when I was in first & second grade.  I used to do a hundreds laps in an Olympic size pool.  I think my dad had thought about making me a professional swimmer before….but I don’t know why he never followed through on that one in terms of finding me a coach at that young age.  For myself, I don’t think I knew you can swim competitively or professionally, so I never pushed him to find me a coach either.

But after learning that Dara Torres was swimming competitively this year in her 40s, I was even more inspired!  I didn’t know you can compete in the Olympics at that age!!!  It totally made me want to do it too!

What’s even more awesome is that she’s a mom!  To place second in the Olympics this year, in her 40s, have a kid!  Wow…..I mean, that’s seriously awesome!

So here’s my little dream…I really want to compete in the Olympics too.  After I found out that the Olympics isn’t just for young teenagers and people in their early 20s…I really want to try out for it now.  Of course I don’t know how realistic this dream is.  But it’s there…I wonder if that’s possible at my age?

Wouldn’t it be cool if I was that person in that middle lane in the photo???  It’d be so awesome.

  • I’d be happy to photoshop you into that picture in the unlikely event that you don’t make the team

  • i think they probably started training for it earlier?  i donno.  i believe that you can do it if you try!! but then…. would u have to give up photography??  noooooooo

  • i just read this now…are you taking steps to get there yet?  that is so awesome!

  • Ingrid, it doesn’t hurt to try it.  It only hurts when you don’t even give yourself a chance.

Before I turned 35, I had never run more than a mile…and that was during junior year of my high school.  Due to an e-mail received from a friend who ran a half Marathon for the first time, I was so inspired that I wanted to do it too.  I began to train myself in July and in October of the same year I ran my first half Marathon of 13 miles at Long Beach Marathon.  It was really tough during the training, and I almost pass out once.  From beginning of the training to completing the Marathon run, I just kept reciting the verse “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”   He surely did lift me up and strengthened me… not just during that run, but also through my walk with Him.
